I would swear there is another tomb painting where they do this - just have the sarisa soar out of frame - but I cannot for the life of me remember where it is and I am too lazy to pile through my notes to check.

Also just a note - I don't buy the reconstruction with metal-connecting-tube. I know of nothing for it in the ancient sources (?), it's not depicted on any of the representational artwork. Yes, we found a tube at Vergina, but I don't think we can be confident as to its purpose.
