every argument in favor of letting China conquer Taiwan is also an argument for letting Britain reconquer Ireland. it's just if the British were to threaten that we would recognize it as psychotically unacceptable.

Social democrats are perfectly at ease with welfare states at home, at the cost of continuing misery, exploitation, war and death abroad. They are not a viable alternative to capitalism, merely a soothing palliative while the world goes to hell.
And by 'goes to hell' you mean that levels of war, violence and poverty all fall at record rates.

War and violence are sadly still very much a fact of life, we have simply banished them far from view outside of Western Europe, North America and a few select enclaves around the world. The only reason global poverty has fallen in the last decades is because of "tankie" China.

The point you make about violence is wrong in global terms: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/battle-related-deaths-in-state-based-conflicts-since-1946-by-world-region … Battlefield deaths decline as a function of time, even counting the horrors of the Syrian Civil War; the decline is even more dramatic if you adjust for population.
