I am amused that my cats stretch differently. Percy does the standard cat-stretch of standing and reaching his front paws as far forward as he can. But Ollie never does that; he just rolls on to his side and reaches all of his paws out, curving his body into a little crescent.

It's a bit of difference in builds (where they're most flexible) plus habits (what position they sleep in, and doing the stretch they know). You could, with positive reinforcement, teach the cat to stretch the other way -- not that it's necessary!
