Without Rome: Total War coming out while I was an undergrad, would I have ended up doing Hellenistic history in particular? It would be difficult to say it wasn't a contributing factor.
Heavy early influence on me, although that also meant unlearning some of the...ah...less historical things in the game later.

But should I get the remastered version? Now that it also runs on Linux. I've been tempted... But I never played the original.

The original is great, if the you like the series, prolly the 2nd best one after Shogun 2. ("History" based ones. We all know Total Warhammer 2 is the best)
