One real advantage of building up a blog full of historical essays is often I can shortcut key concepts by linking to another post where I defined them. When I plug the blog in my cover letters, I go by a six-month rolling average of unique visitors per month(counted by wordpress by IP, I assume), which tends to sit around 40-60k.
