That might not be too much of a problem if the ranks of the military broadly reflected America's own political and cultural divisions, but as Bryant et al. note, they do not. Contra the blithe assertions of the Gates Commiss, the AVF does not look like America... 9/25

Evidently those West Point cadets need remedial courses on their Clausewitz. Mercifully, the number was lower for serving officers, but of course today's cadets are tomorrow's officers. 11/25

Such things are not necessary in good civ-mil. Moreover, the concern wasn't empty. Great thread but I believe this early number was not representative per @AlexHortonTX reporting. That number declined as more were charged. (But again, excellent thread).

44/380 is 11.5%, which is still nearly double the 6% of veterans in general society. We'll have to wait to see the severity of the issues the people had, but it has also been my sense that rioter-veterans tended to have some of the most concerning fact patterns (e.g. zip-ties).

That's a fair argument to make, though I think given that there seem to have been - going by the pictures - a significant (if not representative) number of women preset on Jan 6th, and obviously there are many women veterans, I still favor the general population comparison.
