We could give them the 100 million AstraZeneca doses we're not going to use
The COVID numbers for India are terrible;I read a lot of hand-wringing about it, but not a lot of sense of what can be done. Can nothing be done (beyond India itself locking down)? Honest question, since the existence of a problem does not imply the existence of a solution.

Well the US has 20 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which no one has received bc it hasn't been approved for use here yet. We could send them to India and other places that need them. That might help.

IIRC, there's some kind of embargo on something needed to manufacture vaccines. Also the whole patent thing. Lockdowns and stuff are important for keeping people safe until enough of the population is vaccinated, but measures can also be taken to get people vaccinated sooner.

Biden invoked defence production act, diverting US supplies to boost US producton of vaccines, which sent India manufacturer into shortage instead. They made up for it by diverting supplies for Covax to Africa instead. But sadly, all this won't be enough.

They have high population densities and have an average household size of 4.3. When one gets infected, likely the whole household gets infected as well. They do have sizable vaccine making facilities, that's their way out. But for now a lockdown is their only option.

Administer half the amount of vaccine currently used to vaccinate more people. Lives saved should greatly outweigh loss of effectiveness. Australia, without the virus in general population, could send its vaccine production to India or wherever it is likely to do most good.

Lots can be done. Air Liquide SA is helping with oxygen supply. Other supplies are being donated. Pakistan's Edhi Foundation has offered ambulances and medical staff. Wrong help can add to the burden and chaos, though.

Emergency supplies of oxygen and setting up of emergency medical tents, be it hospital ships or tent cities.pakistan VWO sent ambulances and staff. Resume export of API to India so they can boost vaccines. Otherwise, i bunkering down to weather worst, like what happened in Italy.
