What I find striking about Endor is it gets away breaking one of the main 'rules' of space battles, which is to keep the ship counts down. Severed Dreams is 3v2, Wrath of Khan is 1v1, New Caprica is 2v4, Ragnar Anchorage (also BSG) is 3v1.
Small numbers are good, viewers can keep track of the action, understand the peril and significance. But Endor makes it work with lots?-v-lotsmore. There are at least 25 Star Destroyers on screen at one point, with distant models used to imply potentially even more.
But because we stay rooted to the situations of a few key characters, whose status we are kept up on (Lando, Wedge, Ackbar) and given a good sense of whose 'winning' via music and quick dialogue, it works while still evoking a huge confusing brawl (which fits with the story).
