It nails a sense of scale with the very limited pre-CGI physical model options that even a lot of CGI copy-pasta battles don't, but manages to also not lose emotional weight the way a lot of 'big' battle sequences can when you can't make sense of what's going on.
One of the best fleet-engagement battle sequences (as is the Battle of Scarif, I'd say).
YES. Always my favorite of the movies from way back because of this, even when other people laughed at the Ewoks. Arguably one of the sources of my interest in military history.
It's a magnificent achievement, a culminating flex after six years of rapid special effects innovation. I'd argue that while many more complex space battle scenes have since been rendered, not one has topped this, fuckin' 38 years and counting later...
