I am, admittedly, decidedly more pleased that it seems to be doing better than the essay by the Most Bellicose Mustache arguing that everyone is wrong and really we ought to stick it out in Afghanistan (and presumably everywhere else), which came out on the same day.
Do you think the shift away from conscription was a mistake?
I have a longer article actually in process discussing this. I am not fully decided on the question. The AVF has both advantages and disadvantages. I do think that the inherent disadvantages of an AVF were under-explained to the public and continue to be so.
This was quite good. I'm not sure how to realistically fix the problem that you outlined.
