As much as I critique Peter Jackson on the blog, all three LotR movies bat above replacement in terms of battle sequences (now the hobbit movies...less so).

Yeah, sorry, they're wrong. The emotional beats for FotR are just more impactful. The closing scenes, w/ the music ('Breaking of the Fellowship') weaving in and out of the Fellowship motif and the 'Concerning Hobbits' motif is probably an all-time-great film moment.
