What is the problem with saying “cancel culture”? Is the implication of how its been usead, or some kind of inaccuracy?
I think it focuses on the wrong things and the wrong people. The focus ends up on powerful people being 'cancelled' (who end up generally not losing their lucrative TV shows and large national platforms), which isn't where I think the issue is.
For my own part, I tend to think in terms of 'mobbing' (the shoutdowns and campaigns to get non-famous people fired) and then the 'chilling effect' on speech which is the intended result of those efforts.
