But without that granularity, it becomes "Alexander dies, his companions fight, resulting in this apple-cart which exists to be overturned by the Romans." And I think that survey-course treatment bleeds into low public interest in wars they don't really know happened.

I've always wanted to actually teach the Hellenistic period from an east-med. focus (thinking the course title would be "The World After Alexander"), but alas, adjuncts don't pick their courses, so it's more surveys without enough detail to really do the Hellenistic justice.
