That closes out the How Did They Make It series on textiles for the blog (though I have a few smaller 'addenda' posts planned) but I really do want to stress with this topic all I have given is a very rough overview of a complex and varied production process.

Not only are there a lot of complexities in each stage of production which I couldn't get into, but there is also a TON of regional variation. I'm very Europe-Rome-Greece-Mesopotamia focused in this series because it's what I know, but obviously people make textiles everywhere.

But hopefully actually foregrounding textile workers - who are *so often* left out of the popular imagination of the past - does something to bring this part of the pre-modern economy (one of the largest parts!) into better focus.
