in my diss days there were ancient historians in classics (at least 2) and one in history (he didnt get along with the classics folks or something) it was strange for grad supervision too
Interesting. Wonder if that's just different schools, or a sign of the times? Every program I've been at had 1 or 2 ancient historians, never more and always in either history or classics, never both.

it was a while ago... what was also weird was when the guy in the history department went on leave, i from the classics department taught his course
