You know a game that I would play? One focused on designing, building and defending trace italienne (star-)forts. On the one hand, the basic principles are mathematically solvable (and so perhaps easier to design?), but changing terrain/budget create unique puzzles for players.

And yes, I know the Stronghold series exists and tries to do this for medieval castles, but I am also aware that the last truly good stronghold game was released in ::checks notes:: 2008 (or 2002 if you hated S:CE)

But if anything, concerns about overlapping fields of fire, lines of sight over long ranges with artillery and more useful fallback positions makes trace italienne potentially more interesting. Could be really fun. Hope someone makes one (get on that all of my CS followers!)

I saw Pamplona's. It was quite beautiful.

I have earned a reputation that, if I go anywhere with anyone, I will end up dragging the group to a star fort. I have yet to make a trip to Europe that didn't involve seeing one (but also Ft. Moultrie in Charleston and Ft. McHenry in Baltimore)
