Very confused by what they would think is bad history here. Lots of people here are (including y'all) are probably better at the art history side of Roman history than me, but from what I know of early/high imperial sculpture...your interpretation seems perfectly supportable?

Thank you - first century imperial iconography is an interest area for me, and seeing that extend into the second century makes sense from an evidential perspective. Trajan’s mirroring of Julio-Claudian forms and Hadrian’s embodiment as a philhellene are all well documented!
