Cause I'm not seeing it discussed? Am I looking in the wrong places? Ofc, you'd have to pay the teachers for the extra hours, but there's $130bn in ARP for schools and $350bn for states - seems like that could get you pretty far towards making teachers whole for the extra work?

And it feels like this would be pretty popular, given how the polling on opening schools has shifted over the last month. Again, hard on teachers, but many burdens can be made to feel lighter with money.

Why is this “learning loss” a problem? It is essentially the same for everyone. You can’t be “set back” when there is no-one to be set back in relation to. I fail to understand.

um learning to read is good in itself, not just competitively

@nbeaudrot's music. But also I think I've heard that suggested in some places.https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/us-schools-prepare-summer-learning-kids-catch-76534431 … -
There are definitely lots of localities considering it, but there's not a nationwide push for it right now. Summer school seems much more straightforward to implement than longer school days or Saturday School (also under consideration)

It makes sense but ... maybe best saved for *next* summer. Kids have been brutalized by this and they need the break. Nothing productive will happen in summer school classrooms right after all this.
