Tried a bunch of games this afternoon, trying to get the Sid Meier's Pirates(!) feeling. Turns out the best game to recreate that feeling is Sid Meier's Pirates.
I cannot understand why there isn't a modern remake of that, or something like AC4: Black Flag but with all of the modern and assassin bits removed and replaced with more pirates.

Absolutely. I intend to persist a little more with AC4 to see if I can 'get' what others are so keen on, but right now I feel like the game is working against my sense of enjoyment.
