Probably for the best I didn't watch Midway (2019) when it came out. I saw a snippet of the dive bombing attack on Kaga - the AA comes up and the first dive bomber gets hit (Ok) and then the second (?) and third (??) and fourth (!?!) and a fifth (!?!?)

...Kido Butai was on the CVs (because IJN AA was bad); any of the CVs on their own had more AA than the entire 12-ship (1CL, 11DD) screening force combined and the carriers collectively had c. 60% of Kido Butai (4CV, 2BB, 2CA, 1CL, 11DD)'s AA power.

It's actually quite an important thing that IJN doctrine favored a comparatively loose formation around carriers in '42, to allow the carriers space to use fast maneuvers and hard turns to dodge, while USN doctrine preferred closer formations and heavier AA (and was better).

The attack on Hiryu gets the same Hollywood treatment, with SBDs getting shot up every which way - but P&T (326) have just 3(?) SBDs shot down over Hiryu, all by the CAP, not carrier-based AA fire.

So...overall probably good I didn't catch this one in theaters. I think I would have been properly insufferable to sit next to.
