The fact that Biden isn't signing the relief bill until tomorrow is just the latest in a series of signs our leaders fundamentally Do Not Get It, even on a completely cynical, performative level.

Again, even on a purely cynical level this is clearly the thing. If the bill has imperfections - and it does - it's much easier to wave them away if you rushed it out the door! Watching these guys take seven weeks to deliver the day-one bill they promised is Jokerifying.

Frustrating, to be sure. Then again, the bill polls at something like 70/30 in favor, so politically, the manner of its delivery matters far less than the fact of it. If Biden is delaying a day so he can put on a big show of signing it, that's probably smart optics.

This is exactly the idea I find maddening. The only acceptable optics should be a big show of signing the bill as fast as is humanly possible. I can't think of anything more insulting than delaying for the purpose of increasing the fanfare. People are starving, businesses failing
