I saw a quip a while back that all crypto was was a 'money laundering index' and that seems about right.
I can't get anyone to give me a straight, plausible answer for, "What is the entirely legal use-case for bitcoin as a currency?"

I think there's an interesting larger point in this discussion: sometimes 'externalities' are the point: it's not that they are unintended consequences, but absolutely intended efforts to expropriate wealth. 1/

Some portion of the literature on externalities simply launders expropriation and outright theft. 2/
