Silver lining to cryptocurrencies being maybe the worst environmental idea human beings have ever had: I'm far too stupid to trade any of them and can now refashion this as a principled stance
But then you end up back at 'what is a crypto-currency for' - there are lots of people who will tell you it is all in evading government taxes and well...let me tell you a story about states and their monopoly on the legitimate use of this thing called 'violence'

And if the end answer is "it's for doing crime" be that controlled substance purchase or tax evasion, well that is going to really sharply limit users and use-cases...which in turn undermines the 'it will be a currency' idea and thus the upward growth trajectory.

Compounded by the fact that, as a currency, bitcoin is generally a lot less useful than low-tech paper money. You have to wait for transactions to clear, you need huge servers to 'mine' the blockchain (and burn all of that energy doing it).
