The wife of a blacksmith somewhere in Roman Italy. I want to know what her work-role in the household is, I want to know how she views the world, her relationship to the state, everything. We have so little to go on when it comes to 'working class' (so to speak) Roman women.https://twitter.com/rebecca_fachner/status/1366390986428076039 …

Fantastic pick. Just to get a sense of the world in Ancient Rome would be so wonderful.

Well and I can reconstruct a lot of what her husband does. We know how blacksmithing works, we have some attestation of the trade in the evidence. We know how a blacksmith votes in the Roman Republic. But we know basically *nothing* about her life for certain and I wish we did.

My other thought was a female agricultural worker - perhaps an enslaved woman on a large Roman estate, or the wife of a small Roman farmer. But we know a tiny, itsy-bitsy bit more about their lives. Not much more - not nearly enough - but a little bit more.
