Can we ban "elucidate" from academic writing? Other candidates include "nuance" as a verb.

My frustration with both is that they are often wiggle words to avoid laying out exactly what the argument is - 'I will elucidate x' or 'nuance our understanding of x' is a cop-out alternative to 'I will argue that Y is the case about X'
Long methodological passages can serve the same purpose - 'this article will apply <method> <method> and <theory> to <topic>' and I just want to scream, "to determine what? Where do you end up with all of that <method>?"

Anyway, nothing beats being straight-forward, "my question is X, my answer is Y."

Most academicians are terrified to make a clear argument, simple as that. If only five people really follow what you're saying, you have a small pool from which critical response might flow.
