Structuring a 'safety net' post-doc designed to help people through the pandemic to exclude PhDs granted more than two years ago strikes me as foolish and would make me angrier if it weren't for the absurdity of framing a highly competitive post-doc as a safe harbor.
Not a huge surprise of course, when one looks at (for instance) most academic professional societies and sees the relative mountain of opportunities for graduate students and early-career TT academics nearly all of which almost pointedly exclude adjuncts.
But that would be my lesson to graduate students: look at how much support is directed towards adjuncts/contingents by institutions in your field and then adapt your loyalties accordingly. Because in most cases the system doesn't love you, just your 'promise.'
