Been thinking about @BretDevereaux 's examination of Bertrand de Born's martial poetry.
I'm sure I'm far from the first to observe that it's much like some very violent crime-themed music pieces in the contemporary US.

My first instinct is to think of The Wanderer - by no means a poem that unambiguously condemns the martial life, but the lament of a man who now understands the joy he found in it was transitory, and its departure has left him with nothing (except of course God).

I don't know off the top of my head, sadly, but I bet there's some in the troubadour corpus--I've wanted to teach a Troubadour and Hip-hop class, because I've noticed the parallels to the violence of 90s "gangster rap" and the unbridled sex of Peety Pablo etc.
