One thing leftists on here like to say that certainly reflects *my* experience but is probably unhelpful preparation for a political fight is "everybody hates their health insurance." My in-laws think of theirs as a kind of genie that takes all their healthcare costs away
Yeah, this is the problem you run into where something like 70% of Americans report they think their coverage is 'excellent' or 'good' (e.g. https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/09/politics/gallup-private-health-insurance-satisfaction/index.html … ). Which isn't the same as it necessarily being good, just they think it is.

In part, I think that reflects a big chunk of Americans who get their health insurance via their employer in a way that never makes them question just how much lower their pay is to make up for the costly benefit.

They never see that number and so don't necessary see the point in asking sharp questions about why healthcare in the United States is so darned expensive and what might be done about it.
