Now, the total number of majors is a different story but: 1) Non-history majors should know some history too! and 2) a lot of that is driven by inaccurate assumptions students have about the relative earning power of various degrees.

3) There were unsustainably too many new History PhD's anyways (if only considering academic track, I know Major vs. Grad is different), so maybe current major enrollment is good? (Not sure about history for K-12 education, if that is a history or education major)pic.twitter.com/vyNefJZ0oS

Potentially very true, though given that I think there is a high social value to the study of history, I'd like to see the blue line come up more than the orange line go down (though a bit of both is necessary and I am stupefied to see the depts. admitting full grad classes now).
