I have to admit, I find it a touch frustrating sometimes when I'm writing for mainsteam publications because I can't use footnotes. I try to use hyperlinks as footnotes, but sometimes I want to point to a work that isn't meaningfully online and

I really don't know what I'm talking about, and have never published anything, I was just trying out an idea. If I clicked a hyperlink and it led to a page of plain text saying a printed source, as a reader I think that'd be fine? No idea what editors would say
