But, I mean, let's not fool ourselves. We're not doing minimum wage because it's the smart intervention. It isn't and never was. We're doing minimum wage because the costs with it are politically invisible and fall heavily on marginally politically involved (poor) people.
'easy' and 'easier' are not the same. It doesn't seem even interesting to you that the one solution that has managed to make headway is the one which doesn't involve tweaking marginal tax rates upward?

Sure, that could be a factor. Other factors that seem to me more relevant: 1) the main organizing groups advocating lower income people are by their nature most immediately concerned with workers and working conditions

2) "people who work hard should make enough to live" is an easier rhetorical sell, both to potential beneficiaries and the broader public, than "expand this tax credit many Americans don't understand"
