In all honesty, I've seen the movies but haven't read the books. Since college I've been unable to find some fiction that I could sink my teeth into. A dreadful thing I hope to remedy some day.
I mean, hearty recommendation for the books, they are quite good (although FotR starts a bit slow, to be realistic about it). But, you know, de gustibus non est disputandum. People should like what they like.

I have been listening to the audio books for the LOTR during my daily walks. It's a nice break from all the reading for work, and you still fill like you're whisked away to Middle Earth.
