I've never met a Classicist who's a fan of Tolkien incredulously shout "You study Classics AND YOU'VE NEVER READ LOTR?!!!!!" to me before so they're cool. I cannot say the same for HP.

In all honesty, I've seen the movies but haven't read the books. Since college I've been unable to find some fiction that I could sink my teeth into. A dreadful thing I hope to remedy some day.

I mean, hearty recommendation for the books, they are quite good (although FotR starts a bit slow, to be realistic about it). But, you know, de gustibus non est disputandum. People should like what they like.
