Neat! Yes, we do find butted Gallic mail, along with riveted types. Generally it seems to me that there's more variation in Gallic mail (butted vs. riveted, also odd join patterns, like the Tiefenau fragment), whereas Roman mail tends to more clearly follow defined patterns.
I think both the Ciumesti and Yorkshire coats are end-abutted. Makes me wonder if they were just fancy burial goods or intended to be used in combat, honestly, but 
Wouldn't that difference in variation naturally follow from the fact that Romans lived under a single state, whereas Gauls lived under quite a few non-state and proto-state societies, each with its own separate group of warriors? Or am I missing something important here?
