Oh, I know you work on this too and didn't mean to imply you didn't. Just that other specialists working in the same do not yet appear to all be in agreement.

I'd be shocked to hear that someone supports the idea of a "hoplite army" in c. Italy (or really anywhere) these days. I can't imagine what they would be envisioning in the wake of things like van Wees 2000, 2004, Rawlings 2007, Konijnendijk (in general).

I'll admit that I haven't read Taylor's PBSR article yet, but I think I saw it in a working state on Academia and I don't recall him making the case for some sort of Hansonian phalanx existing in early Italy.
