It's easy for these lists to end up too modern-president loaded because that's what we remember, but the 1800s had some truly awful presidents who laid the groundwork for the civil war. Though I'll admit I have a soft spot for presidents who 'meant well, did poorly' like Hoover.

Dubya? He's not much below average. Iraq was a big screwup, but he accomplished some significant things in domestic policy, and his AIDS work was huge. He's certainly not as bad as the ones who sleepwalked into the Civil War, or launched ethic cleansing campaigns.

But did Andrew Jackson cause the kind of misery and loss of life that GWB did, particularly with the incredible deception that led us into war in Iraq? To my mind Bush may have been even worse that Trump in some ways....mainly because of that war

Genocide is lower on the list than Trump? Wtf.

I struggle with where to place Jackson and could see him anywhere from worst to his no. 5 position there. Certainly no better. It depends a lot on where you focus and how you rank, I think.

I am consistently shocked how high Nixon is in people's rankings sometimes; without Watergate, I doubt he would even crack the top 10.
-
Yeah, but Watergate and the coverup and what that implies about the corruption and venality is pretty big in my mind. Obviously I don't put him in the worst 5, but he makes my worst 10.
