At some point, I need to write this up, but I actually thing the decentralized nature of the Empire actually makes a lot of sense but also explains why the Rebellion could work. It's not a 'people's rebellion, but a prince's rebellion - Palpatine's vassals ganging up on him.

Anyway, f*** Y-Wings, A-Wings for life, but also my K/D is best in the TIE-Interceptor, so

OK, but X-Wings have more firepower, hyperdrive capability, shields and require an astromech. They are obviously far superior and more expensive. Z-95s I'd understand.

Although if you lack capital ships, you need the sort of all-purpose fighter like the X-Wing. But then you also have A- and B-Wings, which seem far more modern than the accursed Y-.

Yeah, but the X-Wing is also slower and less maneuverable. There's a reason they can never shake those TIEs without assistance.

Ha. But the casualty rates for TIEs are off the charts.

Interesting question. We see 7 TIEs at Yavin destroyed, but rebel fighter losses are way heavier (until you count the thousands of TIEs blown up in their hangers because Tarkin is a doofus) Endor seems to favor the rebels more in the casualty ratio.

Probably was a bad plan for the Empire to hold back their entire capital strike force while exposing their fighters - which in doctrine, act as a vital shielding force for the capitals which have less point-defense - to heavier rebel point-defense.
