I kind of assume this argument speaks to the degree to which, with streaming, the 'prestige television' format has come to dominate people's sense of the culture. But of course 'less sex in prestige serials' is not the same as 'no sex in movies!' - those are 2 different genres!

A few people in the comments do bring in drama TV where I'm still not sure I endorse this argument but at least there would *be sex that you could even argue about*

I have to admit, I myself find gratuitous sex in prestige TV - especially how nearly all of it indulges the male gaze almost exclusively - off-putting in a lot of cases. But those aren't movies! You can't do that in big blockbusters, and big blockbusters by and large don't!
