New(ish) topic, have you written about support functions in middle ages vs modern day. I deployed to Iraq, and at that time it was said there 21 support troops for every soldier outside the wire. That seems unsustainable in the "olden" days. I'll bet you've written about it.

There were VERY few specifically logistical troops in any pre-modern army. Particularly as enrolled soldiers. Civilian contractors or even just merchants provided a lot of log support (sutlers). So doing a ratio analysis doesn't really work.
