I just got feedback on an abstract for a lecture I'm giving soon. They rewrote it to remove the word "disabled" throughout because "I think [using it] too many times will be depressing."

Yes, it is not an uncommon reaction to the topic of disability in the ancient world, that it's negative or depressing or bad or sad, or that it's an easy topic because "obviously" disabled people would've just been excluded, ignored, exiled, or killed.
Well, I find that reaction depressing and sad. Can I cross out your abstract referee? But in all seriousness, thank you for fighting the good fight on this important topic in classical scholarship!
