I'll admit, I find the GOP's wholesale abandonment of both federalism and local agency deeply troubling. I think, absent core constitutional liberties, communities ought to be able to have the sorts of governments and laws they would prefer.
Right - there is a clear need to prevent communities from deciding that what they'd really like to be is a sundown town, etc. But "we just want to run our communities as we wish" is a conservative refrain that goes conspicuously missing when they securely run state governments
