That is...very counter-intuitive. Anthropologists and Archaeologists use the survival of injured or disabled people in early human social groups as measures of social complexity and care. If there are disabled people in the *neolithic* than surely... Wow, just...eash.
You are possessed, I must assume, of more patience than I would have in the same situation!

So many of my Q&A sessions include someone who says, "I just don't think so," based entirely on their "gut feelings" about disability. As if the reason they've never heard of it is because it didn't exist, not because no one bothered to consider it before.

I've gotten better at being less diplomatic in these situations. Nothing is gained by an "agree to disagree" response and it can actually get quite awkward, as their ableist understandings of the value of human life come to the fore.
