So many of my Q&A sessions include someone who says, "I just don't think so," based entirely on their "gut feelings" about disability. As if the reason they've never heard of it is because it didn't exist, not because no one bothered to consider it before.

I've gotten better at being less diplomatic in these situations. Nothing is gained by an "agree to disagree" response and it can actually get quite awkward, as their ableist understandings of the value of human life come to the fore.
