Dear my students and all future students and also the general public: if you aren't sure if you should use 'social' or 'societal' in a sentence you should use 'social.' Use 'social.' Are there times when one should use societal? Probably. Is this one of them? No.

To be far, the number of cases where you'd use Marxian rather than Marxist are, I think 1) extremely few and 2) very technical in places where, say, Marxist economics is not quite the same for fidgety technical reasons as Marxian economic analysis.
