I used to think this kind of anxiety was irrational. More fool me
I think the anxiety is often counter-production, but entirely understandable. As an instructor, the real problem is that students don't take risks, and without risks and failure, there is less learning. But I can't blame them for recognizing the system doesn't allow for it.
