At some point, I'll probably do something similar for economic history (my other big thematic subfield) and probably also for ancient history as a chronological/geographic subfield.

Here in Germany, military history is even more belittled and reviled than in the anglo-Saxon sphere. We have practically no tradition in this field for decades now.
