Being a gay academic, am I wrong being uncomfortable when straight people retroject modern homosexuality onto ancient relationships? It’s a complicated thing and the tumblrfication/shipping of these relationships kind of taints how we perceive of ancient sexuality.
Not wrong at all, I'd think. I tend to push back on students when they equate the two, because ancient relationships are different, with their own power dynamics, but it isn't something I do as well as I'd like. It's somewhere I need to improve by pedagogy.
