I have one Loeb and it was gifted to me. I guess I’m not a Classicist.

Classicists like to think themselves too good for Loebs. Perhaps they are right. But as an ancient historian, they are exactly my speed, as far as accessibility goes. The only reason I have few of them is that I've been broke most of my life.

Absolutely. I keep a Loeb wish-list. I can always go get a critical OCT or Teubner out from the library if there is some point which might turn on a narrow critical-text question. But having a Loeb handy for quick reference is invaluable.

Agreed, the online database (while the interface could use some work) is a fixture for initial research.

It's also great for checking references when you hit something in the scholarship that triggers a "wait, what?" moment. Been having quite a few "Caesar says what now?" moments this past week, actually.
