Disagreement over issues like a border wall (which as a purely physical object is largely an empty symbol; on the deeper substance of immigration/border policy, Dems like Obama and Biden aren't necessarily less hawkish than Trump) is still more the symptom than the disease here

I confess, every time I see Biden's policy agenda, I think to myself that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Trump got re-elected. (And then I remember what the AOC campaign of 2024 will run on if Biden loses, and I just wind up weeping for the US.)

Speaking as a leftist, believe me when I say there's no chance in hell the Dems would let AOC anywhere near the presidency All we're gonna get from them is a neverending parade of Betos and Buttigiegs, every 4 years until the US empire finally collapses

Every Dem in my lifetime has spouted similar boilerplate on the campaign trail, then once elected they don't actually do it For starters, Biden would have at best a fairly slim Dem majority in the Senate; do you think there's any chance he'd abolish the legislative filibuster?
-
Hell, Obama had a filibuster-proof majority for his first half-term and he barely managed whip his own Dem Senate caucus in line behind Mitt frickin Romney's healthcare bill
