Very interesting. I've already ordered a copy and I'm excited to read it. I expect that I'll have my issues with the back end of the argument talking about the unbalancing of the system, because I see that as primarily a military phenomenon first. But more theories better!
that book so much!
Mostly though, I love big, complex trade & production networks, and 13th c. global trade isn't exactly my strength, so that's super-exciting to read about!

I never thought trade could be interesting, and then in the course of doing my diss, I started reading about how the papacy policed trade in an effort to enforce orthodoxy, and I was like daaaaaaaaaamn!

I hated trade stuff until I read Abu-Lughod. She got me thinking about different ways to extend and power.
