I don't actually think that is the right lesson to take here. I think the right lesson to take is that people decided a 'outsider' could 'drain the swamp' of all of those experts and still lead effectively. They were wrong.

And expanding that a little, there are a lot of people who think they 'know better' than folks who have actually researched and learned on these subjects. One of those 'knowers better' is president right now. Cf. also anti-maskers.

What this crisis has demonstrated is that while experts are sometimes wrong - they are but human - the 'knowers better' who so fiercely distrust them are far more of a menace, as is the culture that thinks, as Asimov put it, "My ignorance is as good as your knowledge."
